-Who’s there?
-Hey dreamer! How are you?
-Ugh exhausted.
-I know. As I saw, you were trying to find information about the places where you were going to further your education. There is nothing more frustrating than asking and asking whether to post on groups, call seniors, or just comment here and there to obtain suggestions from reliable sources. In order to assist you, I’ve compiled various useful information about studying in Greece. Don’t miss this, it’s worth listening to carefully!

Greece
The experience of studying in Greece is unlike any other. Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Turkey border Greece, making it a crossroads between Europe and Asia. As a result, Greece offers a unique educational experience. During your study in Greece, you can experience a multicultural, relaxed, open, and hospitable environment that will leave you with lifetime memories.

-Hold on! Having found this information I have already searched about Greece.
-My bad! I see you’re nearly there then. Now I will elaborate on what the 3Es are, which are: Education, Environment, and Eligibility.
-Yes!. My interests lie in those areas.
-Okay, let’s see how this goes.

Education

⦁    Programs
Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees are available in the Greek higher education system. Greece has 24 public universities that are accredited by the government. The country has public as well as private universities, which are often referred to as colleges. Private colleges cannot call themselves universities under Greek law. Undergraduate and postgraduate programs are still offered by colleges in cooperation with foreign universities. English is mostly used for these courses. [1]

Here are some great internationally-oriented universities:

⦁    Fees & Fundings
Once you receive the letter of acceptance, you will be guided about the next steps in the enrolment process and about the fees you will need to pay (if you are a non-EU/EEA student). Here are some essential figures to give you an idea of the cost of studying in Greece:

⦁    Tuition fees at public Greek universities for non-EU/EEA students: 1,500-9,000 EUR/year. The highest fees are at private universities.

⦁    Scholarship:
If you wish to apply for a scholarship in Greece, IKY, the Greek State Scholarship Foundation, provides multiple opportunities across all levels of study. IKY offers a variety of scholarships in multiple disciplines and cooperates with a lot of organizations like the European Union, Siemens, the National Bank of Greece, CERN, and many more. The number of scholarships is limited and all potential scholars should meet particular criteria, depending on the study area and country of origin. The competition is tough in order to gain a Greek scholarship. Keep in mind that except IKY, we also offer another great way to get a scholarship in Greece through our Study a Master’s in Europe Scholarship. [1]

⦁    Popular Subjects
There are a particularly large number of Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. programs offered in Greece. Here are some of the most popular study options in Greece:

⦁    Contemporary Studies
⦁    Environmental Studies, Urbanism, & Sustainability

Environment

⦁    Accommodation
In Greece, the cost of living, compared to other European countries, is quite reasonable. In terms of student accommodation, not every institution offers student accommodation dormitories and if so, there are a lot of requirements to be met in order to get granted one. Most of the student dormitories are found in the largest Greek student cities, such as Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, Larisa, or Heraklion.

Greece is one of the more affordable European destinations for international students. Most people should live comfortably on a budget of 450–750 EUR per month. Your lifestyle and choices will decide if this budget goes up or down. [3]

⦁    Health & Safety
Health insurance in Greece is mandatory during the whole duration of studies. An international health and assistance insurance provides the following benefits :

⦁    Valid for obtaining the travel visa to Greece
⦁    Cover emergency medical costs in Greece and worldwide (excluding USA/Canada)
⦁    Cover all assistance benefits necessary during studies in Greece :
⦁    Emergency medical benefits (sickness and accident)
⦁    Repatriation to your home country
⦁    Ambulance by air, sea, and ground
⦁    Search and rescue
⦁    Accidental death and disability benefits
⦁    Third-party liability insurance [4]

⦁    Transport & Travel
A regular monthly pass for public transport is 30 EUR, but students benefit from a discount and only pay 15 EUR. For a single trip, the ticket is around 1.40 EUR. You can also take a taxi; in this case, you’ll pay 3.50 EUR for the starting fee and then 1 EUR per km. [3]

⦁    Budget

Rent:
Renting a private apartment or flat is an affordable accommodation type for most foreign students. Prices vary based on the proximity to the city center, the number of rooms, and so on. But you can always share a flat with other students to lower the overall costs.

⦁    one-bedroom apartment in the city center: 250–450 EUR/month
⦁    one-bedroom apartment outside the city center: 200–350 EUR/month
⦁    three-bedroom apartment in the city center: 450–600 EUR/month
⦁    three-bedroom apartment outside the city center: 400–600 EUR/month

Food:
Most students will end up spending around 200 EUR per month on food and groceries. While shopping at local supermarkets, look for discounts or bundle offers.

Other:
⦁    entertainment (cinema, concerts, theatre): 40–80 EUR/month
⦁    student visa fee (only needed by non-EU/EEA students): 90 EUR
⦁    private medical insurance (only needed by non-EU/EEA students): it depends on your personal insurance plan, the medical services covered, and so on [3]

Eligibility
⦁    Student jobs
In Greece, students can work 20 hours during the period of study, while during the vacation period they can work 40 hours. The Greek economy provides many jobs to foreign students who want to work, and you can find employment almost anywhere in the country, the city, or even the islands. Students seeking summer jobs during the summer months should consult their university advisors and/or employment
agencies for job suggestions [8]

⦁    Communication
When moving to Greece, you might consider learning the language before you move given how difficult it can be to find employment if you don't speak Greek well. Furthermore, the country has been struggling economically in recent years, which has resulted in a poor job market. However, there are still jobs available. [6]

⦁    Visas and Permits
The purpose of a student visa is to study or to stay in a country for study purposes. The old-fashioned way to apply for a student visa is through the country's embassy or consulate. Foreign students from outside the EU require a visa in order to study in Greece. Nevertheless, in recent years prospective students have been able to apply for a student visa within Greece. [4]

⦁    Permanent Settlement
To legally reside in the country, nationals outside the European Union or commonly known as third-country nationals require an all-in-one residence and work permit. According to the national immigration legislation, a residence permit is a legal document that provides the necessary certification from the Greek authorities and enables the holder to legally remain in the Greek territory. A residence permit includes the right to work.

In Greece, work permits are employer-specific, occupation-specific, and location-specific, and are normally valid for one year. You will have to discover potential employers in Greece if you wish to further your career. After your employer hires you and is ready to sponsor you as his employee, a work permit can be issued. [5]
